Welcome to the Grand Rapids Chapter!
Welcome to the 2016-2017 year for the Grand Rapids IMA Chapter. I am excited about the opportunity to lead the experienced and talented local board and serve the local Chapter. This year will be my 1st in the role of Grand Rapids IMA Board President. I have been part of the IMA since February 2012 and obtained my CMA certification in November 2015. I Joined the IMA Board in 2013 in order to get more involved with the local chapter. Initially helping out with the email communication, then I became more involved by updating the website in 2015. This last year I became the Board president elect and VP of communication.
In June 2016, I was able to attend the IMA National Conference in Las Vegas where I met members of the IMA National team and many IMA professionals from around the world. The conference was an excellent experience, and I highly recommend attending in the future. The conference for next year will be held in Denver, Colorado.
The Grand Rapids IMA chapter currently has 352 members, which includes:
Membership growth and activity is critical for the continued success of the IMA and the Local Chapters accross the world. As chapter president, I would encourage you to attend a minimum of 1 of the 7 chapter meetings planned this year. We have a great line up of quality speakers for the year which I look forward to hosting/attending. Please invite fellow staff members to attend these presentations to get them interested in the IMA and learn something new.
I am also encouraging members to get involved with the local chapter by volunteering (promotional activity, Counseling, Civic educational activity, Junior Acheivement, Community Service Projects, or other projects). Let me know how you are currently or would like to volunteer. If you are limited on time, but would still like to help, the IMA is launching a new program called Campus Influencers. This program is to get the information about the IMA into local campuses around the area to students and professors about the IMA. I am excited to get the chapter participating in this program and need your help to get the program going strong.
As chapter President, I am responsible for board succession planning and am always looking for IMA members interested in joining the board to bring new ideas to the chapter. If you have an interest in joining the chapter board to help in planning and coordinating the chapter activities, please contact me. If you are looking for a leadership development opportunity, join the IMA Board with the intent of ascending to Chapter President.
If you are waiting to obtain you CMA, I encourage you to make this the year you obtain your CMA certification. The benefits of the CMA are very beneficial to your career, company, and knowledge.
Finally, I want to thank the Sponsors of the Grand Rapids IMA Chapter and encourage you to check out their products & services, and see how they can fill your needs.
I hope to meet you at a Grand Rapids Chapter Event.
Zack Scofield, CMA
