This web-based newsletter serves as notice of our quarterly board meetings and communicates news of Council activities to our board and chapters. News items are shown with headlines and a short intro, linked to the full article on our Michigan Council web pages. News occurring between quarterly newsletter issues will be posted on our Council website, so please check there regularly, too. The website contains a schedule of all posted chapter meetings. A Message from President, Chuck Phillips

Well, you can feel winter in the air and we have reached the half way point in this IMA year.   Michigan Council members have been busy with many projects in addition to the Fall Conference.  Lisa Beaudoin and I visited Cleary’s Howell Campus to discuss the IMA and CMA with their accounting club.   Lisa also visited MSU’s accounting club to discuss the IMA and CMA.  Lisa and I are scheduled to meet with EMU’s accounting club in November.  Please let me know if you would like to have Lisa Beaudoin of Global IMA visit your University to discuss the IMA and CMA.

9th Annual Fall Conference a Resounding Success

The Michigan Council held its 9th Annual Fall Conference at the Kellogg Center, in Lansing, on Monday, October 25. Attendance totaled 155 members, guests and sponsors.

Plan to Attend the 2011 Annual Fall Conference

The 2011 Fall Conference is scheduled for Monday, October 24th and will be held at Kellogg Center on the campus of Michigan State University. The conference is a great opportunity to earn CPE, be exposed to information that is important to our profession, and have an opportunity to meet and network with other Accounting Professionals.

The nominating committee will be meeting soon and will be accepting nominations for the Michigan Council Board.  All Chapter Board Members with an interest in serving at the regional level of the IMA should contact Chris Mishler.  Chris can be reached at clmish@hotmail.com.

Ann Arbor Chapter News

This month's Ann Arbor Chapter's meeting is Thursday, November 18th.  The guest speakers will be:  Amy Butler of the State of Michigan on "Green Energy" and Lou Glazer presenting "Michigan Economic Outlook".  The next meeting will be on Thursday, January 20, 2011.

Detroit Metro Chapter News

The Detroit Metro Chapter is hosting a joint meeting with FEI on Monday, November 29th at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, MI.  The guest speaker, Micki Maynard, Senior Editor - Changing Gears Corporation for Public Broadcasting will speak on "The Role of Foreign Companies in Remaking the Manufacturing Belt".

Michiana Chapter News

This month's Michiana Chapter meeting was held on Tuesday, November 16th. This meeting was Student Night for the Chapter and John Engel presented on "Team Building". The chapter's next meeting will be an Ethics seminar on Tuesday, December 14, 2010.

Saginaw Valley Chapter News

This month's Saginaw Valley Chapter  was at Damon's in Saginaw on Wednesday, November 17th.  Plante & Moran presented it's Annual Tax Update. The next chapter meeting will be on Wednesday, January 19, 2011.

Upper Peninsula Chapter News

For the fifth year in a row, the Upper Peninsula Chapter won a banner for placing in the top 15 of 90 chapters in the Warner Division.  The chapter was awarded a banner for 13th place this year.

An annual holiday dinner is planned for Friday, December 3rd at Northern Michigan University.  In addition  to a great dinner and social atmosphere, Ms. Leah LaCasse will present "Untouched

Secret:  Facts, Stories, and Personal Observations of an Island in the Middle of a Lake".  Ms. LaCasse is a National Park Guide at Isle Royale National Park.
