President's Message:  Brenda Engel, Council President 2015-2016

We have just completed another successful Fall Conference that was hosted by the IMA Michigan Council and included more than 200 participants. The hard work of our dedicated Michigan Council and the valued support of our sponsors and members resulted in record attendance. We strive to bring quality speakers with interesting and relevant topics so plan now to attend next year’s event!

More details about the conference will follow elsewhere in this newsletter.

If you find that your IMA membership is bringing value to you and you have enjoyed the Fall Conference, please consider sharing your IMA experience with a friend, student, or co-worker who may also gain benefit from involvement in the IMA. I challenge each of you to invite a peer to the next chapter meeting. I am sure they would benefit from the technical meeting, networking and camaraderie your chapter provides.

One of the Michigan Council’s goals is to assist chapters and students through leadership training, educational speakers and topics, and financial support for their local events. Please let me and other members of the board know how we can help you promote the Institute of Management Accountants and provide benefits to the Michigan and Northern Indiana members of the IMA. You can find links to the Chapters’ websites and their calendar of events and we hope that you will take advantage of these events and support your chapter as it strives to serve its members.

Student support and activities is especially of interest to me. The Michiana Chapter (Northern Indiana) and our Council will be hosting its Annual Student Leadership Conference March 18, 2016 at Trine University’s Mishawaka, IN campus to provide educational and networking opportunities to students from Michigan and Indiana Colleges and Universities. Please let me know if you would like to participate in this rewarding opportunity to help the students of today, become the leaders of tomorrow.

Lastly, I would like to wish you and your families a very Happy New Year!

Brenda Engel, MBA

President of the IMA Michigan Council 2015-2016

Using Your Influences

A variety of influences help shape your personal leadership style over time. Understanding their impact can lead to greater insight and development.
