A Message from President, Dana Collins
The Institute of Management Accountants is a global organization that provides educational, research, networking and leadership opportunities to its members and the local chapters. The Michigan Council consists of 8 chapters of the IMA in Michigan and Northern Indiana and the Council provides support to these chapters through leadership training and educational speakers and topics. The goal of the Council is to assist the local chapters in providing benefits to its members and responding to requests for assistance with speakers, topics and other activities and resources as appropriate.
The Council has been very busy this summer in meeting with the Presidents and Board of Directors of the local chapters and offering assistance in their goals to serve the chapter membership. A great deal of effort has taken place into developing and organizing the Fall Conference that the Michigan Council sponsors each year. This year the conference will be held at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing, Michigan on October 24, 2011 and once again the Council will provide 8 hours of outstanding educational opportunities to its Chapters’ members and I want to invite all of you to attend this conference.

Ann Arbor Chapter News
In April, the Ann Arbor Chapter awarded two scholarships and Rebecca Zhu was one of the recipients. During the Summer, Rebecca traveled to China and subsequently wrote an article about her experience. Her article, "Link Up and Make a Difference" describes her experience of interacting with other IMA members and business leaders in China. "This summer, I decided to take a trip to China, and had an interest in meeting IMA members in the region. When Susan Bos, a member of the IMA' Board of Directors heard about this plan, she immediately made several contacts to eventually help me connect with Sherry Ma, as staff member of IMA China. Sherry introduced me to two executive IMA members who were from Coca-Cola and General Motors respectively in Shanghai. We exchanged stories, talked about backgrounds, and discussed some business about the IMA. Unlike other regions, the IMA in Shanghai has not developed their local chapters. I shared with them how we operate our Ann Arbor chapter by introducing monthly dinner meetings, board meetings, student scholarships and community services. They said, "We hope to implement those ideas to our chapters in the near future." In the meantime, they also gave me great advice on key skills needed to be an effective leader. They encouraged me to forge ahead, and to always be open to opportunities that arise."
The next Ann Arbor Chapter meeting is scheduled for October 20, 2011and will feature two guest speakers, Anthony Kurek, EMU will present "Are you Prepared for an Audit?" and Sajay Rai CPA, CISSP, CISM will present "Top IT Audit Risks".
