Welcome to the Saginaw Valley Chapter!
President’s Message
Our April Annual Awards Night is always special, but this year it will be extraordinary. In addition to celebrating the CMA certifications’s 40 Years of Excellence, we will also be remembering the life of our fellow colleague, Ridley Nimmo. We will be joined by the top accounting students in the area - one from each of our represented colleges and universities: Central Michigan University, Delta College, Northwood University, Saginaw Valley State University, and University of Michigan-Flint. We have four chapter members who have reached membership milestones in the past year. Please plan on attending the meeting to honor all of these dedicated individuals.
There is great concern in the IMA that the recent addition of the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) by the AICPA trivializes the importance of management accounting with the absence of testing and assessment of skill. The IMA contends that the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credential is the most relevant assessment of qualification for management accounting. Following this lead, we will be presenting all CMAs in our chapter a special pin for attendance at the April meeting recognizing the CMA certification for 40 Years of Excellence.
If that was not enough for one meeting, Julie Goldman will once again present the Best Case Award winner in the annual Carl Menconi Case Writing Competition. The case is included in the July 2011 Strategic Finance magazine and examines the fine distinction between legal and ethical behavior.
I look forward to see you in April!
Jennifer
